this & that: week of August 11, 2018
Ok we're slowly but surely getting back into the swing of things around here. We're having baby baptized tomorrow and then a little luncheon afterwards for close friends. She's really starting to wake up to the world - making eye contact, smiling, staying awake for more than just a few minutes, and seeming to recognize the people around here or at least to be more alert and aware of the surrounding noise (er, chaos). These are my favorite days, when they're still mostly sleeping and cuddling on you, but starting to show all the promise of their little personalities. It's full of sweetness and anticipation.
Houston heat had me beat for the first few postpartum weeks but I started to feel so cooped up that we had to get creative about getting outside. We take early morning walks (picture two boys on a bike, one toddler on my back and one baby in a stroller - we're quite a crew) and go to the pool with picnic dinner in the evening. I just got a stroller fan which will make everything more bearable (less sticky) for baby and me. My first two were winter babies and this whole experience is pretty opposite.
The school season is right around the corner and I feel just the slightest bit of nervous that I won't have my act together in time. A good start is so important for my mental game! Babies just require so much flexibility and I'M A PLANNER. Guess I'll have to plan in some flexibility...?
Stay tuned for our breakfast series next week! For now, enjoy these links and enjoy your weekend!
Breastfeeding is just really amazing.
I'm getting Phoebe's ears pierced when she's 4 months old. (Her pediatrician does it!)
I have some conflicting feelings about how to approach this issue although I tend to be pretty free range. So many of these issues boil down to a total absence of true community.
Yikes. I don't often give much thought to the complexities of recycling. I think I'm guilty of wish-cycling.
Stories over textbooks - why doctors should read fiction. Interesting idea.
Chipotle used to be my only fast food pick, now I will NEVER EAT THERE AGAIN.
Ian McKellan masterclass is always entertaining
We'll be hosting a breakfast week series next week but for now how good does this breakfast torta look?!
These ice cream bars are driving me crazy.
