Beneath the Crust

this & that

If you've noticed how quiet we've been this week, it's because we're all a little burned out by Easter preparation. It doesn't seem to matter how well I schedule my time or how much I do ahead of time, when the day after Easter rolls around I. am. beat. All I want to do is sit and read and eat jelly beans. (Which is a little what I did.) This week has been a good decompress, but it's time to get back to normal - meal plans, grocery lists, dinners more involved and nutritious than mac and cheese. But I'll take full advantage of the weekend first. :)

If you're just getting started on your morning cup of coffee, here are a few links just for fun:

I could look at photos like this forever.  But then again, I'm a sucker for coincidences.

Lisa Eldridge's make-up tutorials are always fun to watch, especially this one comparing Eastern vs Western make-up trends.

SO EXCITED for this show.

How to store a cake can be a real predicament. Trust Bravetart. She knows!

Now that you can handle a little more:

Worth storing for the future (pun intended!)

When we lived in California, we hiked a lot with the kids. For some stretches we would go out for 6+ mi hikes every weekend. People would often ask us how we got the kids to go for it. I could write a blog post on it, or I could just link to this article which I recently came upon. I particularly agree with 2, 4, 6, 8 and 9. It worked for us!

This is pretty outrageous, really.  My first thought is, "She should have gotten a new OB." I understand doctors wanting to encourage expectant mothers against excessive weight gain but there are just too many factors at play to just make pregnancy weight gain an across-the-board standard.

“As our regular, mundane lives become ever more sedentary,” he says, “we have a need for something more.” Pretty fascinating to read about the growth of ultramarathons. If this kind of thing interests you, check out Berkeley Marathons on Netflix!

From Sarah: "I watched 2001 for the first time about a year ago. I don't pretend to 'get it,' but it is certainly interesting to read how influential and innovative the film was on the occasion of its 50th anniversary."

And now for some food links (just in case you're menu planning like I am):

This looks like a pretty perfect Sunday brunch, doesn't it?

Add some color to your table with beet whipped feta and avocado whipped feta

Another veggie burger to try! If you're into that kind of thing. But really, you put anything between one of our hamburger buns slathered with mayo, layered with cheese, avocado, tomato, lettuce, onion, and a side of fries, you can't really go wrong...

This salad is fresh and delicious and perfect for any spring meal.

Simple and chocolate - good descriptors for any dessert.
